Panelist Bio: All About Dr. Steven Witkin
Steven S. Witkin, PhD, is an internationally respected immunologist and microbiologist whose studies focus on genetic, infectious, and immune aspects of women's health. He currently serves as Professor of Immunology and as Director both of the Division of Immunology and Infectious Diseases and of the Clinical Microbiology and Immunology Testing Unit in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, in New York City. Active in many US and international professional organizations, Dr. Witkin is past president of the International Infectious Disease Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology and was an organizer of the 2005 World Congress for Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics and Gynecology, held in Brazil.
Dr. Witkin has published original research on numerous subjects. Recent articles address a revised immunity hypothesis for the development of symptomatic bacterial vaginosis, the function and immune regulation of female genital tract bacterial flora, and the prevalence of cervical human papillomavirus in women undergoing in vitro fertilization. His work has garnered support from private, public, and not-for-profit sources, and he has lectured extensively on women’s health throughout the United States and internationally.
